During this time of COVID-19, it is essential for our sprits and our sanity(!) to continue to stay connected. So please do not cancel your meeting–just make it virtual. This tutorial is about how to create a group video call on Skype–which includes group chat as well.
I really advocate for the video option–it makes you feel so much more connected like you are right there next to each other. If you have to put on makeup for the call (and maybe pants) so be it. Lighting–also helpful. (Find a lamp that loves you–i.e. makes you look good–and put it just off camera. A mirror next to the lamp helps magnify the light.)
I digress.
Step 1. Say Hello to Skype
You can use any device that has a camera –so download it onto your laptop, your mobile phone and your tablet.
Step 2. Create an Account
In order to be part of a group on Skype, your admin has to be able to add you–and in order to add you, you need an account. You can join using your phone number (mobile) or an email address–that is where they will send a verification code. You’ll need to add a password, and your name, birthdate etc. and then enter the verification code.
All your members will need to be on Skype before you can add them to the group.
3. Admins: Create Your Book Club Group
From the top menu, click on file, then select “create new group.”
Name the group & add an (optional) photo
Probably the easiest way to invite your members is via invite link. That way Skype can take your members thru downloading the app (if they do not have it yet) & creating an account (if they have not yet).
Click on participants to see your options–start an instant video call, or schedule a call. let’s take a look at the Schedule a Call option.
